Ad Aware Removal

Ad Aware is an Internet protection software that prevents and deletes malware infections. It provides help with backdoor trojans, spyware, keyloggers and rootkits. Ad Aware offers a free basic version and more sophisticated Business, Pro and Plus editions. It's easy to uninstall the program either using the built-in uninstaller or the Windows operating system "Add/Remove Programs" feature. However, errors with these two removal methods have been reported, which might compel you to manually uninstall the application.


Built-in Uninstaller

• Ad Aware has a built-in uninstaller which can be executed to remove the software. Go to the "Start" menu and click on "My Computer." Then double-click the "C:\" drive then "Program Files" then "Lavasoft" then "Ad-Aware SE" and double-click "Uninstall Ad-Aware" icon. This is an executable file, so click on "Yes" to confirm the execution and then follow the instructions of the Installation Wizard to uninstall the software.

Add/Remove Programs

• You can also use the "Add/Remove Programs" feature of the Windows operating system to remove Ad Aware. Go to the "Start" menu and click on the "Control Panel." Double-click the "Add/Remove Programs" icon to open the utility, scroll down and click on "Ad-Aware SE" to highlight. Now click on the "Remove Program" button and follow the guidelines of the Installation Wizard to remove the software.

Manual Removal

• If neither of the two previous methods worked and you get an error message, you will have to remove the software manually. Go to the "Start" menu and click on "My Computer." Double-click the "the "C:\" drive then "Program Files" then "Lavasoft" then "Ad-Aware SE." Once you are in the "Ad-Aware" folder, double-click the "unregaaw.exe" file to execute it. Then delete the entire "Ad-Aware SE" folder and the link to the Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE software in the "Start" menu by right-clicking it and selecting "Delete." Locate the Ad-Aware SE icon on your desktop and delete it as well. Now you will need to delete the "Lavasoft" folder on your hard drive by going to the "Start" menu then the "C:\" drive then "Documents and Settings" then "Your User Name" then "Application Data". Scroll down in the "Application Data" folder to "Lavasoft" directory and delete it. Right-click the "Recycle Bin" icon on your Desktop and select "Empty Recycle Bin." Once all of the items in the "Recycle Bin" have been deleted, restart your computer.

The Adobe® software platform consists of several different application suites that can be downloaded individually or collectively. • Before you can download some of the applications, you must create an Adobe account online. (This stop is not necessary for free software.) To do this, click on the "Your Account" link in the upper left corner of the screen when the Adobe page loads in the new browser window. Select "Create an Adobe Account" when the next page loads and fill out the necessary account details by entering your information in the blank data forms provided.

• Next access the "Downloads" section of the site. When the page has loaded successfully, click on the "Downloads" tab, which will be listed as sixth tab from the left at the top of the screen.

• The Downloads page will display a list of links for every Adobe download that is offered. (Acrobat Reader is the popular free program that allows you to open PDF files.) Perhaps you've just purchased a new computer, or have re-installed your old computer. Regardless of your situation, you find yourself needing to install a number of your favorite utilities. If you're like me, you want the easiest, fastest way to get up-and-running with a workable machine.

Using a website called Ninite, you can quickly download and install a number of common, useful free applications to your computer. Ninite allows you to quickly install web browsers (such as Firefox, Chrome, and Safari), media apps (such as iTunes, Songbird, and Hulu), messaging tools (Skype, Thunderbird, and Google Talk), office productivity (such as Open Office and CutePDF), antivirus and other utilities.

• Ensure your Internet Connection is working. Open your Web Browser (Such as Internet Explorer or FireFox) and browse to http://www.ninite.com (Ninite's website is also listed as an additional resource below).

Step 2

• You'll notice that the applications are grouped together by their functionality. Put a check mark in the box beside each application that you want to install on your machine.

Step 3

• Once you have selected everything you wish to install, click the "Get Installer" button at the bottom of the screen. Your download will begin and you'll be prompted for the location to save the installer file. Save the installer to a convenient location (such as your desktop).

Step 4

• Close your Internet Browser. Double-click the Installer File you downloaded to begin the Installation process. (If Prompted with a Security warning, click "Run")

• Ninite will begin downloading and installing each application you choose.

Step 5

• Once everything is finished installing, click the "Close" button. All your programs will be accessible via icons on your Desktop and in the Start Menu.

How to Quickly Create Icons with your own graphics or Digital Photo

• hoose an image you would like to be converted into an icon. If you need to crop your image you can use MS Paint which comes with Windows. In Windows XP it is located under, Start > Accessories > Paint

• Go to the Bradicon! website located at: http://ico.bradleygill.com/index.php

• Click on the "Browse" button and select your file for upload and click "Open."

Step 4

• Wait for the file conversion to complete. Usually it only takes 10-20 seconds. If the conversion fails, try reducing the file size of your image. Some larger images will not convert.

Step 5

• When the process has completed, click the "Download" button to download you icon file. The file will have an extension of .ico.

• You may also choose to rename your file at this point to give it a more "user friendly" name.

Step 6

• The final step is to change a folder or icon image on your desktop to your new image. To do this with Windows XP, right click on the current icon or folder, choose the customize tab, click the "Change Icon" button and then browse for the .ico image file you just created.
